Sketches About Work

Someday I'll find a job that is completely boring and predictable, with nothing scary about it at all.

Frocks and Dandies, Linktastic.

Downside to handwriting my blog entries is that I can't really link to things, so taking a quick break. HEY! The Stumptown Comics Festival is coming up! Nomi Kane and I will be at table C17. Stop by for a visit, and if you're voting in the Stumptown Awards, I'm sure Nomi would appreciate a vote for her anthology Lies Grown-Ups Told Me.

Next I'd recommend swinging by booth 306 for a chat with Beth Hetland, Pat Barrett, and Ben Horak. These guys all do amazing, original work, and Beth was also nominated for a Stumptown Award!

This week I wrapped up a big comics project (that I hope to have printed in time for Stumptown) and rewarded myself with a day of watching RuPaul's Drag Race and doodling fashion plates. Sketches will be for sale at Stumptown!

A Week's Worth of Wardrobe Warm-ups

On Monday I wore a pajama top to work- it's just a long t-shirt, it was comfortable, and my work is just answering the phones and data entry so no one cares what I wear. I don't have a full-length mirror, so I did a little gouache sketch as a warm-up to convince myself it was okay (I work swing shift, so my drawing gets done in the mornings). Then I did the same Tuesday...and so on.

Learned two things from this exercise. 1) Warming up before inking is important, and 2) My look is dependent on cardigans.

Oh hey, a comic!

Old Ladies of the ID.

I've lived in the International District of Seattle for about a month now. Here are a few of my neighbors-

IDgranny2

When I am an old woman, I will have blue hair with a leopard-print jacket and hang out in Starbucks with my laptop all day, like this lady.

ID granny 3

This woman scared the hell out of me coming out of the bank. She's either Dracula's grandma, or a Star Trek villain.

ID granny 1

Not sure if this lady is crazy or just WAY too fashion forward for me.

And it's Friday, so there's a new (old) comic up on the website.

Funny Aminals!

Happy Friday everyone! My big accomplishment of the week was turning in a submission to Funny Aminals 3, edited by Jeff Lok and Bryan Stone.

I highly recommend submitting work to this quality publication. I think it's going to debut at MoCCA? And they may have animal crackers.

And as a reminder that I am still taking commissions, here's another funny aminal. Recently I was asked for a sketch of "a robot made out of a pig and curling irons"-

-and this was the best I could come up with. Poor Pigbot. He stands as testament to the fact that I will draw all kinds of crazy nonsense for $5.

Found Objects

I am still without reliable internet access (hello coffee shops) and my efforts to PAY a company to provide me with internet service have only met with frustration.

BUT I'M NOT GIVING UP YET!

The plan right now is to try and update this blog every Monday and Friday, whether it means walking to the library and leaning out the window to try and steal wifi from a neighbor. This is happening.

On today's menu- things I discovered while unpacking!

Baby's first zine.

Does this count as my first zine? It was in a box of my pre-school artwork. Hey, I stayed inside the lines!

Purple is the color of a purple.

...yes..

These sketches are from last spring, while sitting around by myself waiting for a concert to start.
I'd completely forgotten about this whole thing until I found the sketchbook at the bottom of a box. Always check your tire pressure before starting out on a long trip! ...also, I need to invest in some color pens. My sketchbooks are pretty dull.

ALIVE! and live from Seattle.

new-apartment

I am alive and well and living in the International District of Seattle. Six blocks from my work, one block from the Seattle Pinball Museum. There's an art supply store downstairs and a coffee shop about every ten feet. It's good to be home.

Here the trees wear sweaters.

There's a few basics I still don't have sorted out yet. Regular internet access. A scanner. What happened to my favorite pencil case, (bummed about that one. So many brush pens lost!) but it's all slowly being sorted.

I live here now.

Regular content is on it's way!
