I Know Joe Kimpel at SPX!

Well, well, believe it or not it's almost time for the 15th Annual Small Press Expo- this coming weekend, September 26th and 27th, IKJK will be representing in Bethesda, MD, with some exciting new releases. Of course we will- did you expect us to stay away?? Unfortunately, rumor has it that Joe himself will not be attending this year- ladies, calm yourselves. There will always be other chances.

Dark Corners The newest 4-Square anthology comes to you from the darkest recesses of the IKJK imagination. Four stories take four different approaches to horror, combining good old–fashioned blood-and-guts tales with suspense, surrealism and whimsy. This oversized (10" x 10") volume contains the latest, most terrifying work from Denis St. John (Monsters & Girls), Jeff Lok (Sam & Dan, Pockmarked Apocalypse), Caitlin Plovnick (Dead Air, Creepy Loser Comics), and Mario Van Buren (The Marsh, Prune Hands). Also includes original sketches from the legendary Steve Bissette (Swamp Thing, Tyrant), who draws the loveliest creepy things we have ever seen. We're having a debut discount at SPX, so stop by the IKJK table and pick up this disturbingly handsome volume for only $10.

Basket Ogress Xeric award winner Colleen Frakes will be debuting Basket Ogress #1, an intriguing new series of minicomics. Basket Ogress #1 has a lovely screenprinted cover on French paper that comes in brown or purple. It's a limited, numbered edition of 75- so be sure to grab a few at SPX or at the IKJK store if you miss out on them there. We're also beyond thrilled and proud of the fact that Colleen has been nominated for an Ignatz award for Promising New Talent, so be sure to vote for her if you're attending SPX! Good luck Colleen, we'll be rooting for you!

T Shirts! Colleen has also been busy cooking up some more IKJK t shirts and we will have both Tragic Relief and Mario van Buren's Girls Don't Poop styles available at SPX. The Tragic Relief shirts come in light blue and grey for women's sizes, and maroon or dark blue for mens. We're sold out of all the women's size small. There's medium to XL left. The Girls Don't Poop shirts are all brown (what else), and there's S-XL left in men's and women's. Be sure to pick up these limited edition tees at SPX because once they're gone, they're gone.

End of Eros We're excited about IKJK newcomer Jose-Luis Olivares who will be bringing a new comic, End of Eros to SPX. Rob Clough from High-Low says, "Jose-Luis goes crazy with his monstrous character designs, gleefully approaching this sort of Gnostic idea with a smudgy line and dialogue that devolves into primitive symbology." Also look out for the tiny little Mans Walkin' mini-comics at SPX, along with other assorted minis by Jose-Luis.

Well, that's about it, don't get too excited now! Friends of IKJK will be also be out in full-force, including our pal Cayetano Garza, who has also been nominated for an Ignatz for Outstanding Online Comic for his Year of the Rat. Good luck Cat!

Other pallies of IKJK, Bryan Stone and Jeff Lok, will be debuting the anthology they co-edited, Funny Aminals, which features stories by Colleen Frakes and Cat Garza, as well as Brandon Elston, Emily Wieja, Jose Luis Olivares, Joe Lambert, Denis St. John, Kubby, Penina Gal, Bryan Stone, Jeff Lok, Morgan Pielli, and Dane Martin. With a cover by Cat Garza, an essay on the history of the funny animal comic by Steve Bissette, and games and puzzles! Plus extras! Woo hoo!

And last, but certainly not least, IKJK artist Ken Dahl will be celebrating the release of his Monsters book from Secret Acres, congrats to him! Listen, we've still got actual Monsters #2 and #3 minicomics at the IKJK store, these are gonna be collector's items now that the book is coming out and the minis are out of print, so grab them while you still can!!
