Tom Riddle Drawings

I try to update this at least once a week, but it's hard when you can't really share anything you're working on right now. I am drawing- every day!

Here is something I think I'm allowed to share. These drawings of Tom Riddle (the future Lord Voldemort) at ages 1, 6, 11 and 16 have been mailed off to the Harry Potter Alliance for a fundraiser. This was a lot of fun, I want to draw more of them.

Queen of Blood!

I am not quite ready for Halloween to be over yet!

Based on this old movie poster.

In other news, I have come up with a very stupid plan to keep me drawing all November.
Details tomorrow!

Regular People- Character Sketches

Sketchbook Follies

From an all-staff meeting in November 2007:

And something more recent. My roomate's cat keeps life interesting:

I just like orange, that's all.

There's a lot of comics out there that I read. It's part of my job. This past week I've been doodling some fan art for many of them.

Fan art for my friend Josh Frees, whose comic, The Adventures of Hardcore Dan, is pretty great.

My friends (and roomies) at American Stronghold have a mysterious project in the works. Alas, I am not the first to make fan art for this comic that no one has ever seen.

I painted this on Saturday because I was tired of inking. It's not quite so pink in person.

PROGRESS!

This was a weekend for getting things done! I tried to wrap up as many small, side projects as possible so I can start really concentrating on the bear story. Here's what I've been up to:

My friend Andrew is an amazing writer, and I've been trying to get a collaboration going with him since I came to CCS. Think we've finally got something going with this long form erasure poem he's been sending me in pieces. Finished the first section yesterday. The text is based on the memoirs of 17th-century English explorer dude William Dampier.

I've been working on this short comic in my sketchbook on-and-off since November, finished it up yesterday, too. It's monsters and sexy girls in glasses and their underwear in the woods. What's not to like?

This is part of a panel from my submission to "Awesome 2: Awesomer" :

I totally flipped out when I was invited to submit to this anthology! Jeff Smith did the cover, and the list of contributors is just amazing. Part of the profits from sales of the book go to a scholarship for The Center for Cartoon Studies, which is...well, awesome. Finished this up and sent off the pages yesterday.

Just one small side project to finish now, and I'm free. In the meantime, I've got bears to draw.

Update Blog- CHECK!

This weekend was for checking things off my comics "to-do" list.

New icon for IKJK site redesign. CHECK!

Finish another chapter of the bear story. CHECK!

2 page painted comic for BASH magazine #6. CHECK!

Ink and scan my 3-page submission for Side B. CHECK!

What's left on the list:

-Finish lettering my Side B comic (I've been working on this thing since Spring, but it keeps getting pushed onto the back burner for other projects. No more!)

-Submission for the "Love Comics" anthology that the current CCS freshmen are putting together.

-I was asked to draw a "Bearotaur" or "Minobear", half bear and half bull. Not sure how this is gonna work yet.

OH YEAH! And Rob Clough was kind enough to review some of my work on SeqArt again. The website seems to be down, but Penina found a Google cached version of it. Check it out. He also reviews some of my favorite books that the CCS alums have put together this year. Man, I know some amazing people!

"Side B" submission

Here are a few sample panels from my submission to Side B. I'm posting them here as a way to force myself to finish it!

A finished "St Lucia" page

It's kind of at a wonky angle since I didn't have a scanner- I just took a photo with the digital camera.

This is a mysterious project. Answers will reveal themselves in time.

St. Lucia, Bless this Blog

A rejected panel from a current project (I drew the page at the wrong orientation).

St. Lucia or Lucy is the patron saint of the blind or people with eye trouble.
